Teaching

My teaching philosophy is outlined in my teaching statement from 2010.

• Fall 2011: RU Hacking Contest.
  I set up a server running vulnerable custom software for students to hack into. The contest was wildly popular and a resounding success. The story was covered by essentially all major Icelandic media (RUV TV news, RUV Radio 2, Kastljós (Spotlight), Stöð 2/Vísir, MBL Morning Newspaper). The server is still running and the code is freely available.


• Summer 2011: The Structure of Social and Information Networks (T-214-SINE, 6 ECTS).
  A 6-week course I taught at Reykjavik University in Summer 2011. Based on the book Networks, Crowds and Markets by David Easley and Jon Kleinberg. The slides and lectures are all available online.


• Spring 2008: Advanced UNIX Tools (CS214, 2 ECTS). A short course I taught at Cornell on bash scripts, Python and networking in Linux.


• Fall 2007: Data Structures and Functional Programming (CS312, 6 ECTS). I co-instructed this Cornell course with Prof. Radu Rugina.
